What an impressive restoration - I'm doing similar though I don't think mine was so far gone. What is startling - referring back to my keeping an old mini on the road days - is the quality of the steel!

Where mine sufferes is the wheel arches have been rather through the wars, most recently when my wife reversed her Yaris into it! Thank heavens for ebay and second hand light clusters, a bit of panel beating and the car should be okay! Now to find a replacement lamp unit, the screw thread for the lens is beyond straightening.

Hi,
Im a new member i currently do not have a military vehicle  ( i have old combat boots to get me around  ),

I am hoping i can quiz you on the saracen, Im thinking about buying one as a bit of fun and a hobby, Im looking to go halfs with my mate, who is an ex squaddie from the armoured divisions, he used to work on and drive 432 recovery vehicles, we have had mixed reports on the saracens some good and some really bad most people who are selling say their ok people who dont have one for sale are saying they are 'dogs' but do we want to buy.....??? what ever they do have in.

As a sarecen owner can you give some advice about your saracen experience???

Thanks Chainsaw.

I wish I could answer your question about drivetrain windup, but since my Saracen came to me with a disturbed gearbox, the only chance for windup was rolling off the lowboy trailer and into the building. I assume the stories must have some truth as I have seen pictures of the 6 wheelers with parallel stripes on the hubs so you could tell at a glance if parts were broken and the manuals do recommend matching tire diameters per side of vehicle. So far my enjoyment has been limited to the smiles it gives me when I walk in and have to look up at quite an angle to see the top of the turret and the lovely smell it has on a warm day. Sort of an oil and old canvas smell that I remember from the local Army/ Navy surplus store when I was a youngster.

Regards,

Bob

mines had its problems but you've got to remember they are getting on abit.the parts supply is good there is a few dealers who have most things that go wrong.
as far wind up i haven't really had any problems, you just need to remember to bump up and down a few bumps,it mainly occurs on prepared roads but if you off road that gets rid of it.
saracens are fun but remember they do bite and are 50's technology so beware of other road users they think you can stop on a penny.
just think of them as the fourth bridge you start at one end and by the time you get to the other end its time to start again..lol
all in all the are a great machine but not for everyday use as with most armour.
